A new season means assuring your accessories are ready for the weather and events ahead. For those of us here in Chicagoland, summer means we are switching out our spring raincoat for sundresses, winter gloves for headbands. Are your skincare essentials ready for the summer heat and sun? Here are a few items to be sure you have ready to greet the summer season in style – and in good health.

Sunscreen

Don’t hit your favorite summer outdoor events without assuring that your sunscreen protects against UVA and UVB rays. Further, you should choose a high SPF number and pair it with a topical antioxidant cream that includes Vitamin C for the best cellular protection. If you are considering using the same sunscreen you used last year, double-check the expiration date and consider tossing it for a more current bottle this year. Finally, tuck your sunscreen everywhere you may need it this summer: a small bottle for your purse and beach bag, as well as larger bottles for your home or suitcase, will assure that you are never without the protection you need. Remember to reapply your sunscreen every two hours!

Water Bottle

Healthy skin starts from the inside, so be sure you are focused on hydrating with plenty of clear fluids this season. Water is always the best choice, so consider splurging on a water bottle that you’ll love toting around in your briefcase or beach bag. Aim for 64 ounces of water each day, but drinking more when you are outside for long periods of time will ensure that your body gets the fluids it needs.

Hydrating Moisturizer

Speaking of hydration, summer is a season when your skin needs an extra boost of moisturizer. Excess sweating and sun exposure can leave your skin feeling extra parched and stiff without a creamy moisturizer as a part of your skincare routine.

Favorite Hat

You can protect your skin with sunscreen, but you should also protect your skin by limiting your exposure to the rays in the first place. A wide-brimmed hat is a stylish option for the beach while a baseball cap can block out extra exposure while you are on a run or hike.

Beach Umbrella

Don’t hit the beach this season without a shady spot to relax. Invest in a lightweight beach umbrella or collapsible tent to tote to the beach. Your skin will thank you and everyone you are with will love having a cooler spot to catch their breath before heading back out to the water.
