Winter is here! It is the best time to flaunt your glowing skin and makeup. However, it is also the best time for skin problems. The dry winter air can lead to flaky, cracked, and itchy skin. It can even lead to eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea. Here are some tips to take care of your skin this winter.

  • Your skin needs extra hydration in the winter.

Dry weather can suck the moisture out of your skin, leaving it tight and itchy. To replenish your natural layer of protective oils, consider using a good moisturizer with vitamins E or C that will boost collagen production and help your skin appear smoother and younger-looking. You can also choose a product with hyaluronic acid, which attracts moisture from the air and delivers it directly to the upper layer of the skin. Also, drink plenty of water.

  • Protect your lips from dryness

Dry winter air can cause your lips to chap, crack, and bleed. To keep them looking and feeling their best this season, follow these helpful skin care tips:

  1. Avoid licking your lips when they are dry; this will only irritate the skin further. Instead, apply a moisturizing lip balm on your lips up to three or four times a day. This can help seal in moisture and prevent further drying of your lips. Wear lip balm that contains sunscreen to help prevent sun damage to your lips.
  2. Drink plenty of fluids every day to keep your body hydrated, which will improve the health of your skin from the inside out. Try to drink at least eight glasses of water each day.
  3. Exfoliate your lips gently when you wake up and before you go to bed. This will help remove any dead skin cells and help stimulate circulation.
  4. Limit your intake of foods and beverages that contain high amounts of sugar and/or alcohol. These substances can dry out the body and make your lips more vulnerable to damage and chapping.
  5. If you smoke or use other tobacco products, quit as soon as possible. Smoking and other tobacco use can exacerbate the signs of lip damage and lead to more serious problems later on.
  • Use sunscreen and moisturizer

The winter can be harsh on your skin, so don’t forget to use good sunscreen and moisturizer before heading outside on cold, dry days. Protect yourself from premature aging and cancer by wearing sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. During the winter, your skin also needs extra moisture to keep it hydrated and healthy. Look for moisturizers with ingredients like shea butter and vitamin E to hydrate and rejuvenate your complexion. It’s also a good idea to use a humidifier in your home to help add moisture to the air. This will keep the skin from getting too dry.

  • Avoid the wind

If you are spending time outside this winter, dress warmly rather than focusing on fashion or style. The wind can cause chapped lips and skin that is dry and flaky. It can also dry out your eyes and make them watery. Cover your face with a scarf or ski mask when you’re out in the wind.

  • Stay hydrated

Dehydration is a common problem in the winter because people tend to drink less water than in the summer. Drinking plenty of water is essential to keep your skin moisturized and healthy. Consider carrying a water bottle with you wherever you go so that you can sip on it throughout the day. You can also stay hydrated by drinking hot tea like chamomile tea or herbal blends.

  • Wear gloves

Protect your hands from chapping and windburn by wearing gloves while shoveling snow and doing other outdoor chores.
